...The Syrian Desert stretches from this belt to its northern limit. The main rivers are the Euphrates (600 km in Syria), the al-Khābūr (405 km) in the Jazira region, the Orontes (325 km), the Baradā (71 km) that runs through Damascus, and the Qurīq (110 km) that irrigates the Aleppo Plain. The climate varies greatly from a Mediterranean climate in the west to an inland semi-arid and arid climate in the east.
