Lake Onogawa - Onogawako

Located in north-central Fukushima Prefecture, this lake is one of the three Urabandai lakes. It was created in 1888 (Meiji 21) when mudflows from the great eruption of Mt. Bandai dammed up the Onogawa River and Nakanosawa River, creating a lake with an area of ​​1.4 square kilometers and a maximum depth of 21.8 meters. The shoreline is rich in inlets and outlets, and the lake is home to many small islands. Along with Lake Hibara and Lake Akimoto, it is one of the centers of Bandai-Asahi National Park. Rivers such as the Onogawa River and Nakanosawa River flow into the lake, discharging into the Nagase River. Some of the lake water is channeled through a tunnel into Lake Akimoto, where it is used to generate electricity. The Bandai-Azuma Lake Line runs along the southern shore.

福島県中北部、裏磐梯三湖(うらばんだいさんこ)の一つ。1888年（明治21）磐梯山大爆発の際の泥流が小野川、中ノ沢をせき止めてつくり出した湖。面積1.4平方キロメートル、最大水深21.8メートル。湖岸線は出入りに富み、湖内には小島が多く、桧原(ひばら)湖、秋元湖などとともに磐梯朝日国立公園の一中心である。小野川、中ノ沢などの河川が流入し、長瀬川に排水する。湖水の一部はトンネルによって秋元湖に導かれ、発電に利用される。南岸には磐梯吾妻(あづま)レークラインが走る。
