Japanese: ヤブマメ - やぶまめ

A climbing annual plant of the legume family commonly found growing in sunny places such as roadsides, fields, bushes, and around forests. The stems are thin and have fine downward-facing hairs. The leaves are compound and divided into three leaflets, with stipules at the base. The terminal leaflet is broadly ovate or ovate, and 3-6 cm long. It produces type 2 flowers. Two to eight flowers bloom in short racemes that appear in the leaf axils from August to October; they are purple, butterfly-shaped flowers, 15-20 mm long. Cleistogamous flowers have no petals and are borne singly in the leaf axils. Most fruits ripen from cleistogamous flowers and can be found both above and below ground.

道端，野原，やぶ，林のまわりなど日当りのよい場所にごく普通に生えているマメ科のつる性一年草。茎は細く，下向きの細い毛がある。葉は3小葉に分かれた複葉で，基部に托葉がある。頂小葉は広卵形または卵形で，長さ3～6cm。2型花をつける。開花する花は8～10月に葉腋（ようえき）から出る短い総状花序に2～8個がつき，紫色の蝶形花で，長さ15～20mm。閉鎖花は花弁がなく，葉腋に1個だけつく。果実は多くは閉鎖花から熟し，地上と地中とにできる。
