A fishing boss from Shiinauchi Village, Kaijo County, Chiba Prefecture. Born May 6, 1859. Around 1888, inspired by American-style purse seine nets and the six-man nets used in Tokyo's inner bay, he developed an improved aguri net for catching sardines. It is also said to have been invented by Sembonmatsu Kisuke from the same village. His makiami fishing method proved to be very successful and spread throughout the country. He passed away on July 27, 1922, at the age of 74. Source: Kodansha Digital Japanese Name Dictionary +Plus Information | Legend |
