A city in the middle reaches of the Kakogawa River in southern Hyogo Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. The city center was the Jin'ya-cho of the Hitotsuyanagi clan in the early modern period, and it has long been known as a home-based production area for abacus, Banshu sickles, and scissors. Around 1955, production of wooden bead curtains began, and exports are also thriving. In recent years, small furniture has also been manufactured. Fish hooks and Banshu textiles are local specialties. There is Jodo-ji Temple and the KDDI Ono Receiving Station. The city is served by the Kakogawa Line and the Kobe Electric Railway Ao Line. 兵庫県南部,加古川中流部の市。1954年市制。中心市街は近世一柳(ひとつやなぎ)氏の陣屋町で,古くから家内工業によるそろばんと播州鎌,はさみの産地として知られ,1955年ごろから木珠のれんの製造が始まり,輸出も盛ん。近年は小物家具も製造。釣針,播州織物が特産。浄土寺,KDDI小野受信所がある。加古川線,神戸電鉄粟生(あお)線が通じる。鴨池はシベリアからのカモの飛来地として著名。92.94km2。4万9680人(2010)。
