A gorge in the Omaki River, a tributary of the Hii River, in the southeastern part of Shimane Prefecture. It belongs to Okuizumo Town, Nita District. It is a V-shaped valley formed by the erosion of the granite bedrock, stretching for 3 kilometers. The riverbed is home to a group of large and small potholes, huge rocks such as the Jujoshikiishi and Funaiwa, and both banks are cliffs such as Tenguiwa, making it a hidden area with waterfalls in places. It has been designated a national scenic spot and natural monument, and is the center of a prefectural natural park. The name Shitaburuki is said to be a corrupted version of "Wani no Shiitayama," a mountain of love in the Izumo no Kuni Fudoki. There is a bus that runs partway from Izumo Minari Station on the JR Kisuki Line.
