Bandicoot-rat

Japanese: オニネズミ - おにねずみ（英語表記）bandicoot-rat

A huge rodent mammal of the muridae family with dense long hair on its lower back that looks like it is wearing a hat. It is found in Taiwan, southern China, Indochina, Sumatra, Java, India, and Sri Lanka. Body length is 16-36 cm, tail length is 14-26 cm, and weight is 680-1130 g. The body is sturdy with a thick snout and short, rounded ears. The tail is shorter than the body and is almost hairless. The body hair is soft and gray-brown to blackish brown, with a mixture of short light brown bristles and long blackish brown hair (7-10 cm) on the lower back. The underside of the body is light brown.

腰に長毛を密生し，みのを着たように見える巨大な齧歯（げつし）目ネズミ科の哺乳類。台湾，中国南部，インドシナ，スマトラ，ジャワ，インド，スリランカに分布。体長16～36cm，尾長14～26cm，体重680～1130g。体はがんじょうで吻（ふん）が太く，耳介は短くまるい。尾は体より短く，ほとんど無毛。体毛は軟らかく灰褐色～黒褐色，腰に淡褐色の短い剛毛と，黒褐色の長毛(7～10cm)を混生する。体の下面は淡褐色。
