An extinct plant belonging to the family Osmundae in the order Fern. This fern flourished from the Jurassic to the Early Cretaceous periods of the Mesozoic era, and was named after its resemblance to Onychium, a modern fern. Leaves without sporangia are called bare leaves, and their shape resembles that of the modern Onychium tachisinobu, but they are significantly different in that the shape of the sporangia is unlike any other fern today. In Japan, they can be found in Ishikawa Prefecture, where strata from this period are widely distributed.
