Condensed ring compound

Japanese: 縮合環式化合物 - しゅくごうかんしきかごうぶつ（英語表記）condensed ring compound

A compound in which two or more rings are bonded together by sharing two or more atoms. Representative examples include naphthalene, which has two fused benzene rings, and phenanthrene and anthracene, which have three fused benzene rings. Compounds in which many fused benzene rings, such as 3,4-benzopyrene, are known to be highly carcinogenic. Compounds in which even more rings are fused have electrical conductivity and are attracting attention as organic semiconductors. The simplest example of an alicyclic fused ring is decalin, which is formed by condensing two cyclohexanes.

2個以上の環が2個またはそれ以上の原子を共有して結合した化合物。ベンゼン環2個が縮合したナフタレン，3個が縮合したフェナントレン，アントラセンなどが代表的である。3,4‐ベンゾピレンのように多数のベンゼン環が縮合したものには強い発癌性が認められている。さらに多くの環が縮合したものには電気伝導性があり有機半導体として注目されている。脂環式縮合環の最も簡単なものは2個のシクロヘキサンが縮合したデカリンである。
