Simple rhymes are those in which only the vowels that form the syllables at the end of a line and the consonants that follow them are the same. Most Chinese rhymes are like this, but in Western poetry, the consonants that precede the vowels are often matched as well, and this type of rich rhyme (rime riche) is particularly sought after in French poetry.
