…After World War II, he left the Champs-Élysées Ballets and founded the Ballet de Paris in 1948. His works, such as “Ladies of the Night” (1948) starring Fontaine, “Carmen” (1949), “The Wolf” (1953), and “Cyrano de Bergerac” (1959), which brought fame to his wife Renée (Zizi) Jeanmaire (1924-), created a great sensation and stimulated the postwar ballet world. He later created the masterpiece “Notre-Dame de Paris” (1965) for the Paris Opera, while also showing his talent in revues and Hollywood films (such as “The Andersen Stories” and “Daddy Long Legs”). …
