A former town in Kitasaku District, eastern Nagano Prefecture. A rural mountain village southwest of Komoro City, centered around Mochizuki, a post town on the Nakasendo road. Rice, field crops, and forestry are cultivated here. Medicinal ginseng and sake are also produced here. In April 2005, it was incorporated into Saku City along with Usuda Town, Minamisaku District, and Asashina Village, Kitasaku District. Area: 128.64 km2 . Population: 10,619 (2003).
