[History of urea research]
The first person to isolate urea from urine was Hermann Boerhaave (1668-1738) of the Netherlands around 1725. At the end of the 18th century, Hilaire Marin Rouelle suggested that urea was rich in nitrogen and was the end product of food metabolism. In 1817, William Prout (1785-1850) of England correctly determined the chemical formula of urea through analysis.
