Russian novelist, philosopher, and music critic. Cousin of the Decembrist poet Aleksandr Ivanovich Odoevskii (1802-39). Early on he was influenced by German philosophy, especially by Schelling, and served as president of the romantic philosophical circle, the Atheist Society. He produced many works, including the satirical novel The Duke's Daughter Mimi (1834) and the utopian novel 4338 (unfinished), but his most famous work, Russian Nights (1844), is a combination of short stories about Sebastian Bach and Beethoven's Last Quartet, as well as philosophical dialogues, and is considered the first Russian philosophical novel.

ロシアの小説家，哲学者，音楽評論家。デカブリストの詩人のオドーエフスキーAleksandr Ivanovich Odoevskii(1802‐39)の従弟。早くからドイツ哲学，とくにシェリングの影響を受け，ロマン主義的な哲学サークル〈愛智会〉の会長をつとめた。風刺小説《公爵令嬢ミミ》(1834)，ユートピア小説《4338年》(未完)など多くの作品を残したが，代表作《ロシアの夜》(1844)は《セバスティアン･バッハ》《ベートーベンの最後の四重奏曲》などの短編小説と哲学的会話からなり，ロシア最初の哲学小説と称される。
