...After the war, composers actively adopted 20th century compositional techniques, and at the same time, interest in traditional Asian music (especially Japanese gagaku and Indonesian gamelan) grew, and a movement to synthesize the two and create a new, uniquely Australian musical culture continues to this day. Representative composers of this movement are Peter Sculthorpe (1929- ) and Richard Meale (1932- ), whose works are performed internationally. [Stephen G. Nelson]
