1900‐73 A poet from the Soviet Union, Russia. Born into a poor peasant family, he was only able to receive an education at primary school. He began working at the local newspaper Workers' Road in Smolensk in 1921, and then moved to Moscow. Around that time he began writing poetry, and in 1927 Gorky recognized his work, saying, "Isakovsky is not just a country boy, but a new man who knows the two forces of city and countryside. These two forces cannot exist without each other." He published many collections of poems, and was well-known among readers in the Soviet Union.
