A former town in Nyu District, central Fukui Prefecture. The central settlement, located in a small basin in the Nyu Mountains, developed as a town in front of the shrine gates of Tsurugi Shrine. The town is known for its weaving and woodworking industries, and its specialty is Oda ware. In February 2005, it was incorporated into Echizen Town along with Asahi Town and Miyazaki Village in Nyu District. 39.22 km2 . 5,293 people (2003).
