Perseus

It is one of the 48 Ptolemaic constellations (Ptolemy constellations) that can be seen high in the northern sky at the end of autumn. It is connected to the W shape of Cassiopeia. It is in the faint Milky Way that can be seen from autumn to winter, and its shape that looks like two overlapping curves of the human shape is eye-catching. In Greek mythology, Perseus is said to be a hero who defeated the female monster Medusa. Beta (Beta) Algol is a 2.3 magnitude star that shines on Medusa's forehead, but it is known as a representative of the "Algol-type eclipsing variable stars" that change brightness to 3.5 magnitude in a period of about two and a half days. The cause of the change in brightness is two bright and dark stars that rotate around each other and cause a partial solar eclipse. In addition, the Double Cluster and M34 can be enjoyed as bright open clusters with a small telescope. The Perseid meteor shower, which appears at its peak around August 12-13 every year, is also known.

秋も終わりの宵の北天高く見えるプトレマイオスの48星座（トレミー星座）の一つ。カシオペヤ座のW字に続いている。秋から冬にかけて見える淡い天の川の中にあり、人の字形のカーブを二つ重ね合わせたような形が目をひく。ペルセウスはギリシア神話において、女怪メドゥサを退治した勇者とされている。β(ベータ)星アルゴルはメドゥサの額に輝く2.3等星であるが、およそ2日半の周期で3.5等星まで明るさを変える「アルゴル型食変光星」の代表として知られている。変光の原因は、明暗2個の星が回り合いながら部分日食をおこすためである。また、明るい散開星団として二重星団とM34が小望遠鏡で楽しめる。また、毎年8月12～13日ごろをピークに出現するペルセウス座流星群も知られている。
