Abbreviation: CI. Also known as Corporate Identity System (CIS). Refers to a series of activities by which a company or other organization clarifies its raison d'être and systematically defines and directs its role in society. It is understood as being divided into three elements: the organization's meaning and philosophy, its field of activity and code of conduct, and the image it presents to the outside world. CI was developed by Paul Rand and others in the 1950s and became popular in the 1960s, developing the idea of "corporate image" that was established in the 1930s.
