Ben Nevis

Located in the south of the Highlands in northwest Scotland, this is the highest mountain in the UK, with an elevation of 1,343m. Its name means "snowy mountain". It is located in the western Grampian Mountains, and forms an independent mountain massif due to the surrounding area being dissected. The upper part of the mountain is made of andesite, the lower part of granite, the summit is a broad plateau, and the cirques on the mountainside are covered with perpetual snow. From 1881 to 1905, a meteorological observatory was established on the summit, but it is now closed. The town of Fort William on the northwest foot of the mountain serves as the base for climbing.

イギリス，スコットランド北西部，ハイランド州南部にあるイギリスの最高峰で，標高1343m。山名は〈雪の山〉の意。グランピアン山脈の西部に位置し，周囲が開析されているため独立の山塊をなす。山体上部は安山岩，下部は花コウ岩からなり，頂上は広い台地で，山腹のカールには万年雪が残っている。1881‐1905年，頂上に気象観測所が設けられていたが，現在は閉鎖されている。北西麓の町フォート･ウィリアムFort Williamが登山基地となっている。
