…war (91-87 BC, but the main battles were between 90 and 89 BC) waged by Italian allies (socii) seeking full Roman citizenship. As Rome expanded its control over the Italian peninsula, it did not grant Roman citizenship to Italian cities and tribes, but instead gave them the status of allies.
