[Symbolism]
First of all, the poppy is a symbol of sound sleep. It is said that Somnus, the Roman god of sleep, gave the poppy to the goddess Ceres (Demeter in Greek mythology) to help her sleep better. This is because opium, which is refined from the poppy seed, has hypnotic and anesthetic properties.
