Azad
Indian politician and scholar. Born in Mecca, Arabia. Studied Islamic theology. In 1898, he traveled to India and was imprisoned in Calcutta for publishing a newspaper for Muslims. He joined the Indian National Congress and led the independence movement. He opposed the partition of India and Pakistan. After Indian independence, he served as Minister of Education and Scientific Research in the Nehru Cabinet.
