...In the past, the characters tachibana, kan, yuzu, daidai, and ki were used to refer to each fruit, but it is said that it was only from the mid-Edo period onwards that they came to be referred to collectively as citrus fruits.
[Classification]
Citrus fruits are numerous species in the Rutaceae subfamily, Rutaceae, which are classified into six genera of "true citrus" according to Swingle's classification, or four genera of "trifoliaceae" according to Chozaburo Tanaka's classification. However, the genus Poncirus , the genus Fortunella , and the genus Citrus are usually called citrus fruits.
