Okuincho - Okuincho

Japanese:
Okuincho - Okuincho
An official record prepared and kept by village officials in the Edo period. When farmers pawned or bought real estate, the documents exchanged required the headman's personal seal or stamp, and the headman would write down the details of the contract or the full text of the document as evidence for later use. This was also called a stamp book. Depending on the region, it was called a "field pawn land record book" (hikaecho) or "field purchase record book," but it was effective in preventing double selling and double pledges. Japanese:
