Japanese: 阿波鳴門物 - あわのなるともの

A type of puppet theater and Kabuki play, it combines the love story of Yugiri and Izaemon with the Awa family feud and the legend of Awa Jurobei. There are many plays that dramatize the love story between Yugiri, a prostitute from Ogiya, Shinmachi, Osaka, who died at the age of 27 on January 6, 1678 (Enpo 6), and her regular customer, Fujiya Izaemon. These plays are called Yugiri Izaemon stories. One customer who was obsessed with Yugiri was a certain Awaya from Osaka. Taking inspiration from the true story of "The Rich Man of Awa," Yugiri Izaemon plays are linked to the Awa family feud and the legend of Awa Jurobei, who was a dissolute thief who killed a pilgrim.

人形浄瑠璃，歌舞伎の一系統。夕霧･伊左衛門の情話に，阿波のお家騒動や阿波十郎兵衛の伝説をからませたもの。1678年(延宝6)1月6日，27歳で没した大坂新町扇屋の遊女夕霧と，その馴染客藤屋伊左衛門との恋愛を脚色した戯曲は多い。夕霧伊左衛門物と呼ばれる。夕霧に執心した客に，大坂の阿波屋某がいた。この実説の〈阿波の大尽〉にヒントを得て，夕霧伊左衛門劇は，阿波のお家騒動や，放蕩して盗賊となり巡礼を殺したという阿波十郎兵衛の伝説などと結びつく。
