A curator is someone who is responsible for the overall planning and operation of exhibits at art galleries and museums. They are responsible for everything from selecting artists to negotiating the loan of works, organizing the exhibition space, creating catalogs, advertising, installation, and return. In Japanese, the term is translated as "curator," but the scope and authority of a curator's work is far broader and more powerful than that. It is not uncommon to find star curators overseas who have become stars. Source: "Japanese Handy Book for Quick Responses" published by Asahi Shimbun Publications Co., Ltd.
