Zahlah (English spelling)
A city located in central Lebanon, about 35 km east-southeast of Beirut, on the eastern slopes of the Mountains of Lebanon. It is a distribution center for agricultural products from the Biqa highlands, and is famous for fruits, grapes, wine, and arak. It faces the road connecting Beirut and Damascus, and is also a summer resort. The ruins of Baalbek are located to the northeast. Population: 200,000 (1985 estimate).
