A classification of Noh plays. It is called a female play, named after the shite, who wears a wig, and is also called a third play, since it is the third play performed in a formal five-part Noh play. Of these, those that are performed only as the third play are called honsanbanmono. These plays have a mysterious and elegant charm, and include "Tohoku," "Izutsu," "Eguchi," "Nonomiya," "Teika," "Matsukaze," "Genjikuyo," "Yang Guifei," "Kumano," "Senju," "Isurugi," "Basho," "Kocho," and "Yuki." Among the wig plays, "Sekiji Komachi," "Obasute," and "Higaki" are particularly known as old women plays. "Unrin-in," "Oshio," "Saigyo-zakura," and "Yugyoyanagi" are also performed as fourth plays, so they are treated as semi-wig plays. Note that mad women plays are fourth plays, and are not treated as wig plays even if they wear wigs.
