Sanjaya

...This is the name of a place in the vicinity of Yogyakarta in Central Java, Indonesia. There have been two kingdoms bearing this name since ancient times. One is the Hindu kingdom of Mataram, founded by Sanjaya in 732, and the other is the Islamic kingdom of Mataram (Mataram Islam), which existed from the end of the 16th century to the mid-18th century. Here we will deal with the former, but as we will see below, it is a somewhat loose term in history.
