Silvergray seaperch

Japanese: オオメハタ - おおめはた（英語表記）silvergray seaperch

A marine fish of the Perciformes order, Percidae family (illustration). It is found in areas south of central Honshu, Taiwan, the Philippines, etc. It is also called sea crucian carp. In Kochi and its surrounding areas, it is called Okiamagi, Funa, Taisho, Okifuna, etc. Its body is laterally compressed and flat, with large eyes and mouth. It can reach over 20 cm in length. Its body color is silvery white, with a slightly brownish back. Anglers call it Shiromutsu (white mutsu) because of its body color and resemblance to the Mutsu (black mullet). It mainly lives in coastal sandy and muddy bottoms, but can sometimes be caught in rocky areas.

スズキ目スズキ科の海産魚（イラスト）。本州中部以南，台湾，フィリピンなどに分布する。ウミブナと呼ばれることもある。高知とその周辺でオキアマギ，フナ，タイショオ，オキフナなどという。体は側扁して平たく，眼と口が大きい。全長20cmを超える。体色は銀白色で，背部はやや茶褐色みを帯びている。釣人はこの体色とムツに似ているところからシロムツと呼んでいる。おもに沿岸の砂泥底にすむが，ときに岩礁域で釣れることもある。
