Bluebird - bluebird

Bluebird - bluebird

A general term for birds in the genus Sialia, family Muscicapidae, subfamily Turdinae, or family Siberian Thrush. Three species of the genus Sialia are native to North America, and are 13-15 cm long. All males have a metallic blue upper body. They nest in tree cavities, but also live near human dwellings and often use nest boxes, and are loved by people for their beautiful calls. S. sialia breeds in the eastern United States, while other species breed in the western United States and Mexico, and one other species breeds from the western United States to Alaska, and all of them move slightly south in winter. On the other hand, two species of the genus Irena are found in mainland Asia and the Philippines, and are large, measuring about 25 cm long, and also have beautiful blue upper bodies in males. The "Blue Bird" has been considered a symbol of happiness since Maeterlinck's verse drama of the same title (published in 1909), but the bird actually featured in the play is a species of pigeon.
