...A kyoka poet of the mid-Edo period. Commonly known as Denzo, his given name was Naotoki, and his other name was Chinken. He was a shogunate official who lived in Kaga-cho, Ushigome, Edo, and taught Japanese classical literature and waka poetry to the children of the neighborhood. He liked one-sided kyoka and recommended it to his students, producing some of the greatest Tenmei kyoka poets, such as Yomono Akara, Karagoromo Kitsushu, Akera Kanko, and Hezutsu Tosaku. He compiled and wrote the waka poem "Ijushu" and the kyoka poem "Meiwa Jugoban Kyoka-awase."
