Asahi Shell Mountain Shell Mound

Japanese: 朝日貝殻山貝塚 - あさひかいがらやまかいづか

A shell mound from the early Yayoi period located in Asahi, Kiyosu-cho, Nishikasugai-gun, Aichi Prefecture. It was discovered in 1929 and investigated by Torii Ryuzo and others. It was excavated by Aichi Gakugei University in 1948 and Nagoya University in 1981. The shell mound is circular, 15m in diameter and 1.8m thick. A large amount of early Yayoi pottery from Western Japan (Onga River pottery) has been excavated, and mixed in with it has been found striated pottery from the Jomon culture, and research is being conducted into the material that shows the interaction between the two cultures. The stone tools include large flake stone tools and chipped stone arrowheads, and the bone and horn tools include arrowheads, harpoons, projectile points, bow nocks, and waist ornaments.

愛知県西春日井郡清洲町朝日に所在する弥生時代前期の貝塚。1929年発見され，鳥居竜蔵らが調査。48年愛知学芸大学，56年名古屋大学が発掘した。貝塚は径15mの円形，厚さは1.8m。西日本系前期弥生式土器(遠賀川式土器)を多量に出土し，混在して縄文文化系統の条痕土器も検出され，両文化の交渉を示す資料として研究が進められている。石器には，大型の剝片石器と打製石鏃があり，骨角器には，鏃，銛，尖頭器，弓筈（ゆはず），腰飾などがある。
