Ischial callosity In Old World monkeys such as the Japanese macaque, there are oval calluses on both sides of the anus (some species have both connected). These are thick, keratinized skin circumscribing the ischial tuberosity, which is developed at the very back of the pelvis, and help stabilize the body when sitting on the ground or a tree branch.
