Oho - Oho

An area in the northeastern part of Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Oho Town, which was incorporated as a town in 1953 (Showa 28), merged with the two towns of Yatabe and Toyosato in Tsukuba County and Sakura Village in Niihari County in 1987 to become a city, Tsukuba City. The Tsukuba City Hall Oho Service Center is located in Tsukuho. It forms the northern part of the Tsukuba Plateau and has many flatland forests. A bus runs from Tsukuba Station on the Tsukuba Express. The area is mainly cultivated with rice and wheat, and also produces firewood and charcoal. It grows broom corn and produces zashiki brooms. It is part of Tsukuba Science City.

茨城県つくば市北東部の地区。1953年(昭和28)町制施行した大穂町が、1987年筑波郡谷田部(やたべ)、豊里(とよさと)の2町、新治(にいはり)郡桜村と合併、市制施行してつくば市となった。筑穂(つくほ)につくば市役所大穂窓口センターを置く。筑波台地の北部をなし、平地林が多い。つくばエクスプレスつくば駅からバスが通じる。米、麦の農業が主で薪炭(しんたん)も産した。ホウキモロコシをつくり、座敷箒(ざしきぼうき)を産する。筑波研究学園都市に属する。
