Hume pipe

A reinforced concrete pipe that uses centrifugal force to compact the concrete, invented in 1910 by Australian WR Hume. Hume pipes include external pressure pipes that are designed only for external pressure, internal pressure pipes that are designed for both external and internal pressure, and thrust pipes. There are three types of external pressure pipes: Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3, and the high strength required for Type 2 and Type 3 pipes is ensured by chemical prestress (applying stress in advance through chemical treatment) using expansive materials.

コンクリートの締め固めに遠心力を用いる鉄筋コンクリート管で、1910年オーストラリアのヒュームW. R. Humeによって発明された。ヒューム管には、外圧のみで設計される外圧管、外圧および内圧に対して設計される内圧管、および推進管などがある。外圧管には1種管、2種管、3種管の3種類があり、2種管および3種管に要求される高耐力は、膨張材によるケミカルプレストレスchemical prestress（化学的処理により事前に応力を与えておくこと）で確保されている。
