Oono Yasumaro

Japanese: 太安麻呂 - おおのやすまろ
Oono Yasumaro

He is recorded as Yasumaro in the Kojiki and the inscription on his tombstone. He was the son of Homuji, a meritorious retainer in the Jinshin War. In 704 (Keion 1), he was promoted to Junior Fifth Rank, and in 711 (Wado 4), he was promoted to Senior Fifth Rank. In September of the same year, he was ordered by Empress Genmei to write down the Imperial Edicts of Hieda no Are that he was to recite, and presented them in the New Year the following year. This is the Kojiki (3 volumes). The preface to the Kōnin Shiki states that he was one of the editors of the Nihon Shoki, but this is not certain. In 715 (Reiki 1), he was promoted to Junior Fourth Rank, and the following year he became Uji no Kami (Uji no Kami). He died on July 7, the 7th year of the Yoro era (July 6 according to the tombstone). He was a Minister of Civil Affairs with the rank of Junior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade, and the Order of the Fifth Class. In 1979 (Showa 54), Yasumaro's grave was discovered in a tea field in Konose Town, Nara City, and a tombstone was excavated.
