...A repository established during the Goryeo and Yi dynasties of Korea to preserve the Annals of the Yi Dynasty and other important national documents. In 1227 (the 14th year of the reign of King Gojong of Goryeo), the Annals of Myeongjong were separated into the History Hall in the royal palace and Haeinsa Temple in North Gyeongsang Province, marking the beginning of the division into an inner history repository and an outer history repository. In the early Yi dynasty, the history repository was located in the History Hall and Chungju, but in 1445, to ensure further preservation, the inner history repository was established in the Chunchugwan palace and three outer history repository were established in the provinces (Chungju, Seongju, and Jeonju)....

...Later, following Yang Seong-ji's suggestion, one copy of the fair copy and three copies of the type-printed version were created and placed in the four archives. In 1592, the three archives were burned during the invasion of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's army (the Imjin War), so after the war ended, the four copies were restored in type based on the Jeonju archive, which had escaped the fire, and placed in the Nae-shi archive and the four Outer-shi archives newly built in strategic locations (Manisan, then Jeongjoksan, Myohyangsan, then Seoksangsan, Taebaeksan, and Odaesan). After the reign of Emperor Hyojong, all five copies were type-printed. After the Japan-Korea Annexation, the four Outer-shi archives, except for the Nae-shi archive copy that had been scattered, were gathered in the center by order of the Government-General of Korea, and the Odaesan copy was donated to the University of Tokyo, but was almost completely burned in the Great Kanto Earthquake. ...

…のちに梁誠之の献議に従い，清書本1部と活字印刷本3部を作成して4史庫に分置した。1592年の豊臣秀吉軍の侵入(壬辰倭乱)で3史庫本が焼失したため，乱終結後，焼失を免れた全州史庫本をもとに4部を活字で復元し，内史庫と，要害の地に新設された4外史庫(摩尼山のち鼎足山，妙香山のち赤裳山，太白山，五台山)に分置し，孝宗代以後は5部すべてを活字印刷に付した。日韓併合後，散逸した内史庫本を除き，4外史庫本が朝鮮総督府の命令で中央に集められ，また五台山本は東京大学に寄贈されたが関東大震災でほとんど焼失した。…
