Tanaka Denzaemon

Japanese: 田中伝左衛門 - たなかでんざえもん

A Nagauta musician. The founder of the school is said to be Nishimura Yahei, a small drum performer at the Morita Theater during the Enkyo era (1744-48), but it is not clear whether the first and second generations were called Nishimura Yahei or Tanaka Denzaemon. (1) The third (?-1801 (Kyowa 1)) His first name was Gensuke, and his former name was Tanaka Sataro. In 1760 (Horeki 10), he took the name Denzaemon. The third's second son, Mankichi, was adopted by the eighth generation, Kineya Kisaburo, and later became the ninth generation, Kineya Rokuzaemon. (2) The fourth (?-1830 (Tenpo 1)) The third's eldest son. His childhood name was Yoichi, and his former name was the second Sataro.

長唄囃子方。流祖は延享年間(1744‐48)の森田座小鼓方西村弥平治といわれ，初世と2世は西村弥平治を数えるのか，あるいは田中伝左衛門を名のっていたのか明らかではない。(1)3世　(？‐1801(享和1))　初名源助，前名田中佐太郎。1760年(宝暦10)伝左衛門を襲名する。3世の次男万吉は8世杵屋喜三郎の養子となり，のち9世杵屋六左衛門となる。(2)4世(？‐1830(天保1))　3世の長男。幼名与市，前名2世佐太郎。
