Iatrophysiker

...In medicine, chemical treatment was also a powerful idea (Iatrochemiker), but by the end of the 17th century, a mechanistic view of the body that saw the heart as a pump, the lungs as a bellows, the stomach as a grinder, and the arms as a crane had become largely established. This position was called the Iatrophysiker, but the word physica, which originally meant "natural science" in general, was thereafter limited to "mechanical natural science," or "physics." Mechanism gave rise to social physics, which treated society from this perspective, and also gave rise to the view of the state, such as Hobbes', which modeled humans as automata.
