…German author. Author of the satirical work Das Narrenschiff (1494). Born and raised in Strasbourg (now Strasbourg), Brandt spent 25 years as a student and then as a law professor at the University of Basel. However, as a result of the Swabian War, Switzerland gained de facto independence from the Holy Roman Empire, and Basel was on the verge of joining. As a follower of King Maximilian I (later Holy Roman Emperor), Brandt resigned from his post and returned to Strasbourg (1500). …
