Yoritsugu Kujo

Japanese: 九条頼嗣 - くじょうよりつぐ

Born: En'o 1 (1239). November 21, Kamakura
[Died] September 25, 1256. The 5th Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate in Kyoto (in office 1244-52). Son of Yoritsune. His mother was the daughter of Fujiwara no Chikayoshi. After the Battle of Hoji, in 1251, the Hojo clan broke off ties with the Kujo family on the grounds that the former Shogun Kujo Yoritsune was involved in a conspiracy by the monk Ryoko and others to overthrow the Shogunate. In an attempt to establish a Shogun from the Imperial family, the Hojo clan dismissed Yoritsune and sent him back to Kyoto.

鎌倉幕府5代将軍 (在職 1244～52) 。頼経の子。母は藤原親能の娘。宝治合戦のあと，建長3 (51) 年に起った僧了行らの幕府転覆の陰謀事件に前将軍九条頼経がからんでいるという理由で，北条氏は九条家と絶縁し，皇族将軍を実現しようとして頼嗣を解任し，京都に送還した。
