...It is known that the distribution of this plant is determined in part by differences in groundwater levels due to micro-topography. In small raised areas (hummocks) covered with sphagnum mosses, shrubs such as Rhododendron moniliforme, Rhododendron gracilis, and Deutzia paniculata, as well as Osmanthus japonica and Swamp grass grow. In small depressions (hollows) and flooded pools, mosses such as Eucalyptus japonica, Eucalyptus japonica, and Sphagnum holly, as well as semi-aquatic mosses such as Sphagnum nigra and Sphagnum ulmoides, grow.
