Teiozemi (Emperor Cicada) - Pomponia imperatoria

An insect of the Hemiptera family, Cicadaidae. It is the largest cicada in the world, with a body length of 7-8 cm, and the forewings can span more than 20 cm. Taxonomically, it is closely related to the bush cricket, and its shape is similar to that of a larger version. Its body has black markings on a light brown background, and its wings are transparent. The forewing veins have dark markings, and the wing base membrane is orange. The female's ovipositor does not protrude beyond the tip of the abdomen. It is found only on the Malay Peninsula, and is found locally in mountainous areas. Males often fly to electric lights. They are said to sing from late evening to night. There are three other known species of the Teio cicada, all of which are large.

半翅目セミ科の昆虫。世界最大のセミで，体長7～8cm，前翅の開張は20cmを超えることがある。分類学的にはヒグラシに近縁な仲間で，形もそれを大きくしたようなセミである。体は淡褐色の地に黒紋を有し，翅は透明。前翅の脈上には暗色紋があり，翅底膜は橙色。雌の産卵管は腹端より突出しない。マレー半島だけに分布し，山間部に局所的に産する。雄は電灯によく飛来する。夕方遅くから夜にかけて鳴くらしい。テイオウゼミの仲間はほかに3種が知られ，いずれも大型種である。
