Died: August 1, 1926, Midhurst. British Jewish author and journalist. After graduating from the University of London, he worked as a teacher for a time, but then decided to become a journalist and became editor of the Jewish cultural quarterly magazine Ariel. He was interested in the Jewish problem in Britain and Zionism, and participated in a Zionist meeting in Basel. His major works include Bachelor's Club (1891), Children of the Ghetto (92), Ghetto Tragedies (93), and The Mantle of Elijah (1900). His poems and essays also reveal his sharp logical intellect regarding Judaism.
