After Hispanus translated Greek palmistry into Latin and introduced it as "a science worthy of the attention of noble and learned men," it was widely accepted in Rome. As Christianity gained power, palmistry was banished along with astrology, but in the early 13th century it was brought back to Europe by the Knights Templar who participated in the Crusades, where it took root, and even the clergy began to study it.
