Gyamuda [river] - Gyamuda

...The main stream is navigable for about 640 km, and although there are large box-shaped ferryboats, most of the boats are small boats made of animal skins stretched over a frame of willow branches. The river flows slowly, 600 m wide, until it joins with the Niyang (Gyamuda) River. From there, the river becomes rapid and narrows, forming a deep gorge and making a hairpin detour around Mount Namcha Barwa (7,762 m), before turning south and penetrating the Himalayas. The river narrows to 70 m wide.
