Helmbrecht (English spelling)

His representative work, the short verse story Helmbrecht (1250-80), tells the story of a young farmer who is dissatisfied with his peasant status and becomes the servant of a bandit knight, tormenting the peasants, only to be taken revenge on by the peasants and meet a tragic end. It satirizes the fate of a successful man who disrupts the medieval social order. However, this is not just a moral poem, but a contemporary story that realistically depicts the social and cultural upheaval of a transitional period when the knight class was declining and the peasant and citizen classes were on the rise.
