Harunotsuji ruins

Yayoi period settlement ruins in Ashibe-machi and Ishida-machi, Iki-gun, Nagasaki Prefecture
Since 1951, investigations have been carried out and it has been confirmed that this is the central settlement of "Ikikoku" mentioned in the "Wei Zhi" (Records of the Wei Dynasty). The area is about 850m north to south and 350m east to west, surrounded by three oval moats, with an internal area of about 25ha. In the center is a core facility surrounded by ditches and walls. A large amount of grave goods, including Chinese mirrors, have been excavated from the cemetery outside the moat, which is thought to be a royal tomb. A large amount of Chinese coins, Korean earthenware, and glass products have also been excavated. A 1996 investigation found the remains of a dike-like structure that is thought to be the remains of a dock from the middle Yayoi period. It is about 12m long and 11m wide at its widest point. Advanced civil engineering techniques not seen before were used in its construction, and it is believed that the techniques were introduced from the continent.

1951年以降調査が行われ，『魏志』倭人伝に見える「一支国 (いきこく) 」の中心集落であることが確認されている。南北約850m，東西約350mの範囲に３重の楕円形の環濠をめぐらし，内部の面積は約25ha。中心部には溝や塀で囲んだ中核施設がある。環濠外の墓地からは中国鏡など副葬品が豊富に出土し，王族墓と見られる。中国の硬貨や朝鮮半島の土器・ガラス製品などが大量に出土している。'96年の調査で弥生中期の船着き場跡と見られる堤防状遺構が見つかった。長さ約12m，幅は最大で約11mある。築造には今までにない高度な土木技術が使われており，大陸から技術を導入したものと考えられている。
